O Ronnie James Dio έχασε τη μάχη με τον καρκίνο.

Απεβίωσε την Κυριακή 16/5 σε ηλικία 67 χρονών, μία από τις κορυφαίες φωνές του heavy metal
O Ronnie James Dio.

Ο θρύλος του heavy metal άφησε την τελευταία του πνοή σε νοσοκομείο του Τέξας, έπειτα από τη μάχη με τον καρκίνο, ασθένεια την οποία είχε ανακοινώσει ο ίδιος ότι έπασχε από πέρυσι το καλοκαίρι, λίγο μετά το τέλος της περιοδείας του στις ΗΠΑ.

Η γυναίκα του διάσημου τραγουδιστή Wendy Dio και πρόεδρος του οργανισμού «Children of the Night» ο οποίος μάχεται κατά της παιδικής πορνείας, έγραψε στο προσωπικό του site πως η καρδιά του ράγισε, ευχαριστώντας τον κόσμο για την αγάπη του και την υποστήριξή του, στις δύσκολες στιγμές που περνούσαν.

Σύμφωνα με δημοσίευμα στην kathimerini.gr αναφέρεται πως ο Dio πρόσφατα είχε περάσει την έβδομη χημειοθεραπεία του, ελπίζοντας πως θα έχει τη δυνατότητα να δώσει ξανά συναυλίες.

Το πραγματικό του όνομα ήταν Ronald James Padanova και είχε γεννηθεί στο Πόρτστμουθ και είχε μεγαλώσει στο Κόρτλαντ της Νέας Υόρκης.

Ο Dio έγινε διάσημος το 1975, ως τραγουδιστής των Rainbow, μπάντα την οποία ίδρυσε ο κιθαρίστας Richie Blackmore μετά την αποχώρησή του από τους Depp Purple.

Το 1979 πήρε τη θέση του Ozzy Osbourne στους Black Sabbath, με τον δίσκο «Heaven and Hell» που τον έκανε ευρέως γνωστό να καταλαμβάνει μία θέση στη λίστα των κορυφαίων δίσκων του heavy metal, ενώ αργότερα ακολούθησε solo καριέρα.

Βασικό στοιχείο της θεματολογίας των τραγουδιών του ήταν η διαμάχη ανάμεσα στο Καλό και το Κακό «Heaven and Hell», ενώ συχνά εμπνεόταν από μεσαιωνικά θέματα.
